Joseph  McCowan "Heart" of Art 

This Coloring Book contains thirty-six original drawings of Hunt County African-Americans and their schools, churches and businesses. Among nationally known blacks in the book are Dallas Cowboy football player Harvey Martin and Olympic Bronze Medalist John Carlos. Other famous people include Myrna Gilstrap, Dewey Fitzpatrick, Trig Ward, Ivory Moore, and Dr. David Talbot.

 

A brief history of African-Americans in Hunt County sets the histprical context for readers. Arriving in the area as early as the 1840s, blacks have played an important role in the history of this county.
